How we were not closer living such parallel lives in our shared little town. I seriously thought I was the only one watching that show and dreaming of a life somewhere else. In my 20’s I made it to that Cafe in Rosalyn. I also made it to AK multiple times. I went to Talkeetna which might be the place most like that show. I still struggle to find myself. It is remarkable the things which can break us open in a moment. Thank you for so beautifully sharing your opening.

I never knew anyone watching the show except my 7th grade gym teacher at Baldwin Middle! Seriously, we should have been hanging out . I’m amazed at all the places you’ve been to, inspired by the show.

Alaska- amazing! You’ve had some adventures!

So good to hear from you again, Katie, and I love the new name of your blog. Your theme of dreams, and honoring ancestors, is so perfect for this season. This is a lovely piece. And .... I really resonate with the blue lotus. Blue flowers are my favorite, and Lotus is my daughter's middle name. Happy New Year to you, and I look forward to more of your writings in 2024.

Thank you Jeanne! I had a dream that wildflowers came from stars so I went with it. Amazing that Lotus is your daughter’s middle name! I’m just beginning to connect with this flower and hope I didn’t shortchange it by not writing more. There’s just so much to say. In the last essay, you told me that one of your daughters’ middle name was Metta and now there’s Lotus. Do you have more children? I’m wondering if the middle name of another will pop up in the next essay 😂

Lots of love to you. I was so emotional the first two Christmases after my mom died. I noticed it was less present this year the third year. I absolutely love everything you wrote here about it not being the time to start new things.

And northern exposure! In the 90s, I was working in Seattle, commuting between Kansas City and Seattle every other week. I sat on the plane many (many) times next to one of the directors of Northern exposure who was commuting from Salt Lake City to Seattle every week. Because of that I got to go be on the set one day and watch filming! Still, the only TV shows that I’ve ever been on.

Wow, that is such a cool story ! Amazing! I would have loved to see the set. Did you see John Corbett? I had a HUGE crush on his character when I was a tween girl. Probably still do 😂

I love it - yes, he was there. I didn't meet any of the actors that I remember, just fascinating to watch how a show was filmed.
